*What is gold filled? Gold filled or gold overlay is a process of pressure bonding a thin layer of gold to a base metal core (usually brass). Gold filled (unlike gold plating) has an actual layer of gold, giving it more value and making it tarnish-resistant.
Minimum standards for gold filled require 1/20 th by weight be at least 12 kt gold (5%).
However Bliss, the manufacturer of this product uses a new method which bonds 14kt gold to both the front and back, for a total of 1/10 th 14kt gold (10%) In this way you get the true look and feel of 14kt gold at a fraction of the price of solid 14k gold.
